Bachelor of Information Technology (Network Security)
The Bachelor of Information Technology (Network Security) is a three-year professional degree offered by TAFE NSW Higher Education that prepares you for employment as a network security specialist in this fast growing and dynamic industry.
The course combines a thorough coverage of the skills and knowledge in network security using a practical hands-on approach with the development of skills such as communication, problem solving and critical thinking - resulting in well-trained, analytical IT specialists. The course includes presentations and case studies by leading professional experts, so that students develop tools and techniques for solving the security issues and challenges facing the business world today.
TAFE NSW - Northern Sydney Institute (NSI) has developed this degree in consultation with industry and has created a program that gives you what employers are looking for, right now. The degree provides you with a solid foundation in network design, administration and security with a focus on critical analysis and problem solving skills to analyse security risks and apply appropriate mechanisms and policies to secure networks.
Alongside the core subjects you will be able to choose from a number of electives that give you the opportunity to move into specialist areas of interest.
Advanced Diploma of Computer Systems Technology
This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to coordinate and administer, as an independent information and communications technology (ICT) specialist or as part of a team, the installation, commissioning and ongoing maintenance of a range of networks, enterprise servers and systems, including internetworking, security and e-business solutions.
Certificate 4 in Computer Systems Technology
This course is for people who want be competent in the installation and administration of simple networks, servers, and client desktop deployments either as an independent information and communications technology (ICT) specialist or as part of a team.
Diploma of Database Design and Development
This course is for people who want to be competent in the design and development of ICT database systems. The qualification builds on a base core of design and development competencies with elective choices covering business needs analysis, quality assurance and project management.
Diploma of Digital and Interactive Games (Art)
This course is for people who want be competent in a variety of skills areas within the digital and interactive games industry. It provides an opportunity to develop the graphic/artistic skills required in the development of digital games briefs either as a small independent specialist or as part of a larger team.
Persons can work in new and emerging games genres, such as online game development, mobile device gaming, interactive internet and TV game development.
Certificate 4 in Digital and Interactive Games (Art)
This course is for people who want to be competent in supporting the design, development and programming of basic digital games briefs as part of a larger development team. The qualification has a small suite of core units with a specialist group of games art electives.
Diploma of Digital and Interactive Games (Programming)
This course is for people who want to be competent in a variety of skills areas within the digital and interactive games industry. It provides an opportunity to develop programming skills required in the development of digital games briefs either as a small independent specialist or as part of a larger team. Certificate 4 in Digital Media Technologies (Web Development)
This course is for people who want to be competent in designing, developing and use digital media technologies as an assistant information and communications technology (ICT) specialist working independently or as part of a web development team.
Diploma of Digital Media Technologies
This course is for people who want to be competent in designing, developing and refining digital media technologies as an independent ICT specialist or as part of a team. It provides the opportunity to work in new and emerging digital media technology areas, such as online, and interactive design and development, and with tools and equipment, such as software Web 2 Tools, technologies and mobile devices.
Certificate 3 in Information and Cultural Services
You will learn how to search databases, use cataloguing tools for books and other resources, and use multimedia for education and research. In this librarian course, you will acquire the skills to be able to organise, maintain and promote library collections and how to assist students or clients with the material and information they require. Details about the workings of the library and information industry in Australia will also be covered.
Advanced Diploma of Information Technology (Network Security)
This course provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to plan, design, manage and monitor an enterprise information and communications technology (ICT) network as an independent ICT specialist or as part of a team responsible for advanced ICT network security systems. The course has a high-level ICT technical base with appropriate security units and the ability to specialise in a number of areas, including voice, wireless, network infrastructure and sustainability.
Diploma of Information Technology
This course is for people who want to acquire the skills and knowledge to administer and manage ICT support in small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) using a wide range of general Information and Communication Technology (ICT) technologies.
Persons working at this level provide a broader rather than specialised ICT support function, applying a wide range of higher level technical skills in ICT areas such as networking, IT support, database development, programming and web development.
Certificate 4 in Information Technology
This course is for people who want to be competent in a wide range of general information and communications technology (ICT) technologies and to support small to medium enterprises (SMEs) that require broader rather than more specialised ICT support.
Persons working at this level apply a wide range of knowledge and skills in basic networking, IT support, database development, programming and web development support working safely and ethically in a sustainable work environment.

This course is for people who want to be competent in managing, as an independent ICT specialist or as part of a team, the installation of a range of networks including internetworking, security and/or e-business.
Certificate 4 in Information Technology Networking

This course is for people who want to work in middle-level jobs in a library, school, or other public information agencies. You will learn how to organise, maintain and promote library collections and books. You'll acquire skills in education, searching databases, using cataloguing tools and using multimedia. This library course will also assist you in providing students and clients with the material and information they need through research and analysis. Issues relevant to the library and information industry in Australia are also taught.
