Certificate 3 in Health Services Assistance (Assisting in Nursing Work in Acute Care)

This course is for people who want to work as a health services assistant in acute care. You will learn about legal and ethical issues in health care, effective communication strategies, anatomy and physiology and occupational health and safety. You will develop skills and knowledge to assist in the provision of health care problems related to nursing in acute care settings.

Work placement:

You will be required to undertake clinical work placement of 50 hours in a health care facility. A minimum of 37 work placement hours must be undertaken in an acute care facility.


Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled-Division 2 nursing) - Fast Track

Course duration: 1 Year

The Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled-Division 2 nursing) provides the competencies to work as an enrolled nurse in a variety of clinical and community health care settings as an associate to the registered nurse.

You will be required to undertake a minimum of 400 hours clinical work placement in a variety of approved clinical facilities. Prior to clinical placement, you should be aware that you will need to undergo occupational screening and be vaccinated against infectious diseases. You will also be required to undertake a Criminal Record Check and complete a Prohibited Employment Declaration. Your teachers will give you further advice.

The Institute will assist in arranging work placement in an approved clinical facility.

This course will be offered intensively over a one year duration. Timetables and the hours of delivery will vary between TAFE NSW Institutes. A number of Institutes will be delivering this course throughout the normal TAFE NSW holiday vacation period. Your teachers will give you further advice.

This course is made up of blocks of theoretical study, which will be run over three days per week, interspersed with clinical practice in a range of health facilities. This will enable you to study and to work part-time on the other days during the theoretical blocks (as well as being able to work full-time in vacation periods). Note also that tuition fees include text books.
