Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)

Health insurance, called Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), is compulsory for international students studying in Australia. This insurance covers you for certain medical costs if you need to visit a doctor or go to hospital while you are studying in Australia.

In 2013, the cost for standard OSHC is A$498 per year per single student.

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) charges 2013
6 months A$249
1 year A$498

Students must pay OSHC for the entire length of their visa. Health cover rate is subject to review.

Health cover cards will either be delivered to you directly from Medibank Private or via DEC International. This process may take a few weeks. If a student needs medical attention before they receive their membership card, they should pay for the service and keep all receipts. They can claim a refund from Medibank Private when issued with their card.

You should check the policy carefully in advance, including the details of what is covered. Optional extra cover is available for an additional fee.

Serious medical problems should be declared on your application form and taken care of before you come to Australia, as standard OSHC generally does not cover pre-existing medical conditions.

For more information about OSHC, visit the Medibank Private website

Agent search

DEC International has a worldwide network of representative agents who can help you complete and submit your application to study.

These representatives must provide you with accurate and up-to date information and advice regarding programs, courses, application procedures, living and studying in Australia. They can also assist with your visa application. If you wish to apply through an agent it is recommended that you use an agent on this list. If you choose to use another agent who is not published on this list, then TAFE NSW is not responsible for the accuracy of the advice provided to you.

TAFE NSW English Language Centre agents

TAFE NSW English Language Centres also engage agent representatives and details of these agents can be found on the English Language pages for each of the listed Institutes. These agents may recruit students for intensive English language courses but not for any other courses at TAFE NSW.

If you have any concerns with regard to the service provided by our agent representatives, please contact us.
