TAFE NSW offers a range of intensive English language courses at six government-owned and operated English Language Centres across NSW.

TAFE NSW English Language Centres offer you courses which will offer advantages:

This course is for students who want to improve their general English language proficiency, to travel in Australia or to communicate with native speakers in social or work situations. It develops basic grammar, speaking and listening, reading and writing as well as the skills and confidence to communicate in English.

This course is designed for students who want to develop their English skills to an Intermediate or IELTS 4.5 level. You will acquire a range of English language and vocabulary structures to enable you to speak, listen, read and write in a variety of routine contexts. In addition you will improve your English pronunciation and grammar.

Certificate 3 in Advanced English for Further Study

This course is for students who want to communicate more effectively with native speakers at work or in social situations, or who want to prepare to study in TAFE NSW or at an Australian university. It builds on academic English skills and includes researching, assignment preparation and essay writing.

Students who successfully complete this course are eligible for direct entry into TAFE NSW vocational programs if they meet the relevant academic requirements.

Entry level Intermediate approximately 4.5 in all areas of IELTS
Course length 20 to 35 weeks depending on your English level
Qualification Certificate 3 in Advanced English for Further Study

Certificate 4 in English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

Course Number: 7159 CRICOS Code: 071168K National Code: 91459NSW

This course prepares students for advanced study at TAFE NSW or at an Australian university. Advanced level students will develop academic English skills including academic reading and writing, and seminar presentations.

The six English Language Centres are located throughout Sydney and regional NSW.

English Language Centres in Sydney: Ultimo, Meadowbank, Liverpool.
English Language Centres outside Sydney: KingscliffNewcastle, Wollongong.

TAFE NSW English Language Centres session dates

New students can start on Monday of any week, although at some centres, sessions start every five weeks.

How long should I study English?

The length of time your English course will depend on your English proficiency at the time of entry, your progress during the course and the entry requirements for the course that you wish to study afterwards.
